Demystifying Wood

Object, turned and joined solid wood, 2026

It started with a heavy, almost Viking looking table from a second hand store. I took it apart slowly, without breaking it, to learn how it had been built. The aim: one object that holds every technique of the original without resembling it.

The legs had big round bulbs that looked like a waste of wood, until I looked closer. Each bulb was several pieces glued together and then turned, so it looks bigger than it is. That trick became the core of my piece.

Joinery and wood turning, pushed as far as I could take them. Move your head up and down in front of the column and it seems to shift.
